Stretching for
more than 300 kilometres along the south east coast of
Spain, the Costa Blanca, or White Coast, is a beautiful
place to holiday. Not just the tourist area of Benidorm, but
new ex-pat communities like the area of Torrevieja, are
pulling in the tourists as these area are more suited for
families.
Torrevieja has an African and Moorish feel to the buildings,
with a more Spanish, relaxed, slower pace to life. The
Spanish government is embarking on major projects to
conserve the environment as the increase of foreign visitors
reached a peak of 45 million in 1998, an increase of 5% over
1997.
The
Costa Blanca is blessed with one of the best climates in the
World. The World Health Organisation recognises the region
as one of the healthiest on the planet, perfect for asthma
sufferers and those with respiratory problems. The Salinas,
the natural salt lakes near Torrevieja, which is the second
largest in Europe, are also a draw to many, particularly
those suffering from aches and pains induced by a damp
Northern European climate.
